GP Biotec is an established on-farm anaerobic digester plant which has been operating since 2013. The plant is a farm diversification based at Great Porthamel Farm, Near Talgarth in Mid Wales which has been in the Jones family for over 50 years, spanning three generations. Until 2009 the farm which consists of around 600 acres, was a mixed farming enterprise of beef cattle and arable cropping which was well suited to the local weather and ground condition.
WHAT IS AD?
The focus of the farm business is now arable cropping for use in the AD plant and for sale on the open market. The farm business also encompasses a haulage business, so combined with the AD plant the farm is now one of the largest employers in the local area including HGV drivers, tractor drivers, plant operators and office staff.
