Discussions on the environment is considerably emotive even in light of Covid-19 pandemic. Much of the talk has been on the negative impact of human activities and a focus on positive contributions from individuals as they adopt a more environmentally friendly lifestyle. These talks might linger on for a while and may potentially not have a defined conclusion; but what is certain, is the contributions from the masses will lead to the ocean of change we would all like to see, just like little drops of water make a mighty ocean.

GP Biotec plays a tremendous role in tackling environmental problems by producing biogas from biodegradable waste. Understandably, renewable energy can make a global impact in the efforts to tackle climate change and reach net Zero, hence the importance of renewable energy locally should not be overlooked.

The UK Government has recently announced its investment plans for going green on larger scale with investment into wind energy. Among the government’s priorities are a new focus on hydrogen- fueled trucks, trains, and aircraft, retrofitting homes and more money to be spent on carbon capture and storage technology with long term goals to include the use of hydrogen as a source of power.

According to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), in 2018, the United Kingdom produced a total of 32,870.111 GWh of electricity from biogas produced from the treatment of biodegradable waste which puts the UK in 5th place closely behind Germany based on world ranking.

To make the UK first in green energy supply and maintain this ranking, use of all resources including anaerobic digestion of biodegradable waste would be required. The contributions of GP Biotec hence go a long way; for real change happens when we all get our hands dirty for a good cause
